Ms Rose® Adaptive Media Maths Tutor
Ms Rose® is an award-winning adaptive maths video tutor designed to help address shortages of specialist maths teachers and support pupils to learn at their own pace. It combines interactive video, diagnostic assessment and privacy-first Emotion AI to personalise maths tuition in real time on standard school devices.
Built using A-dapt’s Adaptive Media® format, Ms Rose responds to learner progress and engagement. Pupils answer questions directly within the video, while the system assesses accuracy, speed and confidence to guide them through the most appropriate learning pathway. Emotion AI runs securely in the browser to sense attention and signs of maths anxiety, enabling timely in-video interventions similar to those of a real teacher.
The prototype focuses on Mixed Numbers (fractions) for Year 4 pupils moving into Year 5, with four curriculum-aligned pathways developed in collaboration with White Rose Maths. Field-tested in a UK primary school, Ms Rose proved popular with pupils and teachers, demonstrating that self-paced adaptive video learning supports attention, confidence and understanding, while providing teachers with a fully anonymised lesson report.
